Was English the teaching language for some of your primary or secondary education?   Do you have a Chinese speaking family (or was Chinese the teaching language for some of your primary/secondary education)?

 

If the answer to both questions is yes, then you may be the ideal candidate for this job. 

 

Auckland Translations Ltd (www.aktranslation.co.nz) is now seeking a bilingual Chinese translator / office administrator to join us in Albany,  North Shore.   This is a full time position.  The main duties are:

Translate documents, mostly driver licences and non-technical document, from Chinese to English.
Answer customers phone calls in English and in Mandarin; write emails to customers in English and in simplified Chinese.
Help the owner with records and accounts of the office, and other tasks.

 

We would be very keen to hear from you if you meet the following criteria:

 

1. English Language Skills:    

Your English language skills are very close to that of a native English speaker; or you are a native English speaker. For your primary/secondary education, at least 3 years must be in schools where English is the teaching language (the schools can be in NZ, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, UK, Canada, USA or any country where English is one of the official languages); or you have an IELTS score of 7.5 or above.

 

2. Chinese Language Skills:  

You need to have lived in a Chinese-speaking family environment (or studied in a primary/secondary school where mandarin was the teaching language; or have worked in a Chinese-speaking work environment) for at least 2 years.You need to be able to speak fluent mandarin, and know Hanyu Pinyin spellings for the majority of the commonly-used Chinese characters.

 

3. Qualification:   You have a tertiary qualification (level, subject and country is not important).

 

4. Office experience and Computer skills: 

Have good knowledge on computer/internet;   proficient in MS Word and Outlook.   Ideally, you have office experience for more than 6 months.

5. Have good attention to detail.

 

Translation qualification and experience are not required:    On-the-job training will be provided with normal salary.    As long as you meet the above criteria and like the idea of doing translation works, we are very keen to hear from you.

Residency/Visa:   Applicants must have NZ (or Australia) permanent residency or a valid NZ work visa.
