It is apparent to me that you don’t actually need a WeChat account, because if you did you would already know at least one or more people with long term WeChat accounts. It is likely that WeChat, unlike other platforms, is trying to avoid accumulating an excessive number of inactive accounts.

Here in the West we are kind of used to instant gratification and getting our way. As such we get annoyed when we decide we want something right now and are instead, confronted with pre-qualifications.

I’m not sure why you want a WeChat account if you don’t already have friends, business associates or acquaintances that meet the minimum time criteria. If you just want it for the sake of having it and exploring, that is not a good enough reason. I know, I know, here in the West we tend to think we are entitled to whatever we want, but this is a Chinese App run by a giant Chinese mega company (Tencent Holdings) so our Western rules and expectations do not apply to them.

I know this is not the answer you wanted, but it’s a truthful one and one you are just going to have to accept it. If you want WeChat bad enough, just meet the requirements! You are in Canada, so how hard can that be? Are you near Vancouver, BC on the West Coast or Toronto in the East? Both have a massive Chinese population so go out and meet some people. If you are not willing to do that, then you really have no need of a WeChat account…

I have tried to register on Wechat . Downloaded the app and went through the sign in for mobile user , got as far as getting the CQ . It asks you at this point to have someone (in China ) that already had Wechat to scan this code code but when I ask my friend in China to scan the code she says it is out of date ?? Hi, I don’t have old phone any more, just installed Wechat on new phone. I tried to get friends help me recover my account. Problem is, that verification code changes! When I got the code, I texted my friends and told them to send it to my wechat account. Of course they didn’t see the text immediately. They may see it some hours later, then sent the code, by that time I had already been doing other things, so I went back to Wechat, starting over the process, and this time it gave me a New code, different from last time, so I told my friends to send this second code. This repeated. In other words, do they have to send it immediately while I’m still on Wechat? I can tell my friend are getting tired of my repeated requests.
