Panasonic is a company that may not be immediately thought of when it comes to EVs, but thanks to its work with Tesla at the Gigafactory 1 -- and its work on vehicle systems - it's been rather busy indeed!

Refugee Behrouz Boochani free in New Zealand after years of detention in PNG | 7.30

Seen by many as the voice of asylum seekers held in off-shore detention, the refugee and author Behrouz Boochani has been allowed to travel to New Zealand to speak at a literary festival. He isn't ruling out claiming asylum there, which could create political tension, as Australia has long rejected the New Zealand's offer to resettle refugees.

Behrouz Boochani lands in NZ, will he apply for asylum?

Immigration New Zealand say there was no political involvement in granting a visa to former Manus Island detainee Behrouz Boochani - and he won't be getting any special treatment if he applies for asylum here. The Kurdish-Iranian writer and journalist, who for years advocated on behalf of Manus Island detainees about their living conditions, landed in Christchurch this morning. While in detention, he won two major Australian literature awards for his book No Friends but the Mountains, which he wrote on his mobile phone. Mr Boochani has been granted a one month visitor visa to attend a literature festival in the city later this month - but has yet to say whether he plans on staying longer. Christchurch reporter Anan Zaki was at the airport for Mr Boochani's arrival and filed this report.

“They Are Us”: New Zealand Mourns After Mosque Attacks Killed 50 Including Refugees & Immigrants

Burials are beginning in New Zealand as the country mourns the loss of 50 Muslim worshipers gunned down in two mosques in Christchurch by a white supremacist Friday. It was the deadliest attack in New Zealand’s history. The worshipers killed in the Christchurch massacre came from around the world. Most of them were immigrants, or refugees who had come to New Zealand seeking safety. Six Pakistanis, four Jordanians, four Egyptians and at least three Bangladeshis are among the dead. The Palestinian Authority’s foreign ministry said that six of the victims were of Palestinian origin. We speak with Eva Nisa, a lecturer in religious studies at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. Her recent article for Middle East Eye is titled “New Zealand has been a home to Muslims for centuries, and will remain so.”
