I'm curious if anyone has invested in farmland before. If so, could you please share your experiences?

A few days ago, I was browsing Zillow and looking at land prices. I came across some farmland that seemed promising. I'm curious if anyone has invested in farmland before. If so, could you please share your experiences? Additionally, there are other types of land available. I noticed some very cheap prices for properties like barren deserts in Southern California or bare mountains. Surprisingly, I find myself somewhat tempted (even though there might not be any practical use due to lack of vegetation or wildlife). I'm also considering buying land in other states, as we are currently in California. Is it feasible to purchase land in another state? Some areas in the Midwest look great with large plots of land available at low prices. If any of you have experience or advice, I'd appreciate your insights. Thank you!
