New Zealand Small Car Road Tax eliminates the tiered rate VRR

In previous years, the New Zealand Government had adopted a policy of charging different tax rates based on different safety rating models in order to encourage New Zealanders to change to newer models in order to reduce road accident rates and ACC (Accident Compensation Authority) compensation for casualties in the event of an accident.

The policy ended less than three years after it failed to achieve the desired results, and the ACC no longer imposed different rates on models of different safety levels (Variable Vehicle Rating - VRR) and returned to the flat rate.
