We offer exposure to a range of stock classes and production systems done at scale, where you can influence stock decisions and really make your mark. This role is 90% stock work, ranging from extensive mustering to intensive finishing systems, with lots of opportunity to develop your dog team and stock skills while also gaining an understanding of all aspects of farming.
Lorne Peak is a developing 5600ha family owned and operated property, ranging from intensive flats through to hill & high country at Garston. We winter 25,000+ stock units including romney ewes and angus cows, alongside a developing bull beef enterprise and wintering dairy cows. Production systems include irrigation, red/white/sub clover, lucerne, fodder beet, hogget and heifer mating. We aim to finish all progeny and are focused on lifting animal performance through improved feeding.
You will bring:
• Excellent stockmanship, with a passion for feeding and an eye for detail
• Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile
• 3+ dogs with a commitment to develop your team further
• Minimum 3 years’ experience
• Team player with good communication and organizational skills
• Thirst for knowledge and growth
• Take pride in a job well done
You will have a near new 2 bedroom house, 40 minutes south of Queenstown, with a school bus at your gate. There is hunting and fishing on farm along with the Garston dog trial club.
You will be part of a small yet productive team consisting of the owners, stock manager, tractor driver plus various casuals and contractors. The job will evolve as you prove yourself, providing an ideal opportunity to progress your chosen career.
