The Pentagon increases military spending to deter China.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the US Department of Defense announced plans on Monday to increase military spending. The budget request for fiscal year 2024 proposes a 12% increase in spending on missiles and rockets as well as plans for manufacturing these weapons, reaching $30.6 billion. This is mainly focused on high-end missiles, including hypersonic weapons and defense systems against such weapons, with the goal of countering China's military expansion. The Department of Defense stated that China remains a "growing threat" to the United States.
Just last week, China released its military spending for this year, with an annual budget exceeding RMB 1.5 trillion yuan and increasing at over 7%, which is the fastest growth rate in four years. This has attracted strong attention from outside world.

However, Kathleen Hicks, Deputy Secretary of Defense at the US Department of Defense said during a press conference on Monday that procurement levels have reached industry limits and labor and component shortages could hinder delivery dates for purchased weapons. Some analysts also pointed out that the Department of Defense's expenditure plan may face strong resistance in Congress.
